My name is Xanthe (but everyone calls me Xan) and I live in Barton on Sea, Hampshire with my partner and two cats Topaz and Leo. Poole

I have always been passionate about eating healthy food and keeping fit and in 2019 I decided that I wanted to help others to achieve a healthy and balanced life.

I grew up on a farm in Shropshire, UK in the 1970s and was raised on a diet of meat and vegetables and fruit. My Mum, Rosemary was my inspiration. She was a life long proponent of eating simple, wholesome and healthy food and along with my Dad Leslie, they grew their own veggies, fruit and salad which were free from pesticides and chemicals. It came as something of a rude awakening when I was sent off to boarding school at thirteen and experienced mass catering for the first time. Food choices were extremely limited and I found it quite traumatic to be told that I had to eat certain foods which I really didn't like or want to eat.

I lived in America for a number of years in the late 80s and could see that there was beginning to be a problem with obesity and this seemed to go hand in hand with the junk food and fast food culture. It was only a matter of time before the crisis came to the UK.

For several years I worked in the NHS and saw first hand how frequently people would present with illnesses that were preventable. I was determined I wanted to do something to help

When my son was born I wanted him to be  brought up to enjoy healthy food and worked hard to ensure that he ate a nutritions diet that consisted of white meat, fish, fruit, salad and vegetables and I rarely allowed him to have sugar. He developed a love of seafood and beetroot and avocados and tomatoes all of which he regularly eats to this day. He has never had a fizzy drink in his life and although pizzas and the odd KFC have crept in, his default is to chose the healthy option which I hope he will take with him into adult life.

The teenies was a tough decade for me as I went through a divorce and lost my mother. I used to drink socially but it started to become a habit which at the time I thought helped me deal with sadness and loneliness. However it was becoming unhealthy and I was putting on weight on not feeling my best.

BEFORE AND AFTER

In 2018 I decided to adopt a healthy lifestyle and stopped drinking and recommitted to healthy eating and exercise and I returned to my former former fitness and revitalised.

In 2019 the time was right for me to retrain and become a Health Coach. I investigated the options and  decided to undertake a year long course studying with the prestigious New York based Institute of Integrated Nutrition and became a certified Health Coach in January 2020.

I believe that a back to basics approach to nutrition is required. It is all about clean food which nourishes the body and soul. I like to include all food groups in my eating plans and aim to suggest delicious recipes that will inspire and ultimately lead to a sustainable way of living. It is all about balance and sustaining a healthy life style now and in the future, not just a fad diet that is unachievable long term due to its restrictive nature.

The area I am focussing my practice on is the menopause. It is a time of great change in a woman's life and the unknown coupled with all the horror stories we hear about it, makes it a particularly challenging time for many women. I therefore think it is the perfect time to examine all aspects of life in those years and see what we can do to make this time of life as stress free as possible. There is a shocking lack of support for women out there, however thanks to the likes of Dr Louise Newsom and her tireless campaign My Menopause Doctor, there is a growing recognition that more needs to be done to support women at this time.

Before I became a health coach I have worked in a variety of professional environments and have had many years of administrative experience. I enjoy people facing environments and I am extremely client focussed.
